TTTTwenty-four new girls joined us for the 24th annual Women on Snow weekend. The other seventy-six of us were glad you did and hope you’ll all come back in 2011.
TTTFavorite TV Show was the theme at Saturday Night’s Banquet, and it was clear that Grey’s Anatomy and Scrubs were the hands-down favorites. I didn’t realize that scrubs came in so many colors!
TTTOver the years, organizing Women on Snow events has become more and more dependent on technology. Although some might argue if this has saved us time and money or not, what is has done is made us more efficient. As a result, effective with registration for the 2011 event, we will make our registration form available one month later—on October 1st, rather than September 1st, shortening our registration period by one month. For Women on Snow 2011, registration forms will be available for download from our website on October 1st. You will still be able to send in half your money if you register before November 15th. The deadline for registration will remain December 15th.
TTTWomen on Snow made donations to the clubs responsible for grooming the trails we rode on all weekend. They did a great job for us with the diminishing snow Vilas County experienced the end of January. Our ride was great, and we thank you for your efforts. We especially appreciate the clubs who made a special effort for us. Clubs receiving donations were: SnoEagles, Eagle River; Conover SnoBuddies; St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club; Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club; Sayner-Star Lake Barnstormers; Three Lakes Snowmobile Club; Sugar Camp Snowmobile Club; and the Frosty Club of Land O’Lakes.
TTTTour 2010 took thirteen riders on a trip through Oneida and Forest Counties. The first day was a 100-mile ride to Carter to Indian Springs Lodge, unless you chose to ride on a 65-mile side-trip led by Sharon WeMett—just awesome. On Tuesday, the group rode to Hiles for lunch and then to Holiday Acres Resort in Rhinelander. On the final day, the group took the long way through Sugar Camp trails back to Eagle River for lunch at the Honey Bear. Tour 2010 was 245 miles of great trails with great friends!
TTTA big thank you to Gary Case for stepping in at the last minute to run the support vehicle. We had some stubborn sleds on Friday night, and our funewgee Becky Bingham would have been lost without you.
TTTWomen on Snow is looking to update their logo prior to our 25th anniversary next year. We know how creative our gals are and invited you to submit drawings and suggestions to us via our website or PO Box. Please do this by June 1st. The logo will be used on our website, letterhead, clothing, and gifts. It should include our name and perhaps some identifiable font and/or symbol. The original logo was drawn 25 years ago by Laurel Frank. It was a woman on a snowmobile over a six-pointed snowflake; WOMEN ON SNOW Eagle River WI circled the drawing. The logo on our website was designed by our webmaster, Wayne Overberg.
TTTEncouraging a network of women who snowmobile or who aspire to snowmobile is part of the mission of Women on Snow, and we applaud our neighbors to the north who launched Michigan Women on Snow (MiWOS) in 2009. Their 2010 weekend event was held in St. Ignace on February 12-14th. They are making plans for their 2011 event which will be held in Gaylord, MI.
TTTComments from Women On Snow – 2010: “I can’t wait to see if I can do this on my own”; “Do women really change their own spark plugs if they have to?”; “How do I know if I have enough oil”? ; and, after all was said and done, every woman fended for themselves and did a great job! The new girls experienced what riding with other girls is like and made new friends and many memories.
TTTA note from a FUNGI: It was an experience I'll never forget! It was a fun weekend to experience with 100+ other women. The weather was cold but, the company was great, the sledding was memorable, the banquet was eventful and the ladies are the best! Fun in the snow, in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin! Looking forward to 2011!
